X24 is run by two people between Rotterdam and Leeds, in the evenings, around other work. 11 catalogue numbers, no employees, and a standing arrangement with a plant that lets us press in runs small enough to be a bad idea.
How it got here
2019
A rejected lacquer
The label starts with X24-001, which is cut twice, rejected twice, and never pressed. It stays in the catalogue as a digital release because deleting it felt like cheating.
2020
The one-take rule
Nadja Holm signs on the condition that nothing is re-recorded. The rule outlasts the record and now applies to everything the label puts out.
2021
The Kettle Factory
Kettleworks test a mastering room in a disused kettle works in Hunslet, Leeds. The test becomes X24-003, and every release since has been mastered there.
2023
Acetate first
Oyinda Marsh arrives from sound-system culture with a habit of cutting arrangements to acetate before mixing them. The label adopts it as a third rule.
2026
Eleven numbers deep
X24-011 goes to pre-order, 6 artists are on the books, and the label still does not have a paid employee.
